Materials that are used for this project are hard-boiled eggs, a bottle, and matches. It is a very simple project. First, the shell is removed and the egg is placed on the bottle. Then lit matches are dropped in the bottle. This is the interesting part. The egg gets pulled into the bottle. The reason behind this is the change in air pressure. The flame burns the oxygen inside the bottle, creating a vacuum that creates an illusion of the bottle sucking up the egg. This experiment helps learn about air pressure, making it more amusing by using an egg.

      Another item that is often used for food science projects is baker's yeast, which is a common item used in the kitchen. Yeast Balloons are a good experiment to analyze why yeast is used for this purpose. Items that are needed are dry yeast, a rubber balloon, an empty water bottle, sugar and warm water. First, the dry yeast and sugar is added to the warm water. The mixture is poured into the bottle and it can be noticed that it immediately starts bubbling. The balloon is blown and attached to the mouth of the bottle. The balloon slowly starts to inflate due to the carbon dioxide released by the mixture in the bottle. This shows how yeast brings out carbon dioxide with the help of sugars in flour that makes bread rise.

      There are numerous such items that are used for science fair projects. Children learn a lot from such fairs, when conducting their own experiments as well as viewing others projects. It is not necessary that only complex experiments are educative. Even the simplest of food science experiments are very informative.
